Well, this has been a week. And not one I hope to relive again any time soon. On Monday night, like a bolt out of the blue I got hit by what I can only describe as a jack-hammer of a migraine. Just boom! I took pills and hit the hay but on Tuesday I was in bits. The nausea. Oh God the nausea. It was like I was on a ship in The Perfect Storm, rolling all over the place. Urk. And the diziness! Kinda like you’ve had too much to drink & you lie down on the bed and everything starts spinning? Oh yes. This was a doozy. I stayed off work on Tuesday, and then again on Wednesday when there was no improvement. Yesterday I decided I had to man up and go to work. Yeah. My boss sent me home at luchtime.

I went to the Dr. last night and got an injection for the nausea & dizziness and some amazing new migraine tablets called Imigram. Oh the relief! I slept like a concrete log last night and actually managed some breakfast this morning. I’m not 100% better, but I’m way better than I was.

While I was at home, I was trying to take my mind off the nausea and managed to get some knitting done. Nothing too taxing, but enough to make me not think of throwing up all the time. First up, the Hallowe’en whimsy:

Isn’t it cute? I used up acrylic scraps and glued on some felt eyes I’d cut out. The googly eyes make it I think. I love googly eyes. Alice can’t wait to use it for trick or treating. I’d say this took a day to knit.

Next was hubbys Christmas socks. These were actually a life saver, as I could knit these with my eyes closed (literally). When the world spun just a bit too much, I lay back, closed my eyes and knit away.

Pattern: Your basic sock pattern of choice. I cast on 72 stitches.

Yarn: Berroco Comfort Sock, just under one skein.

Needles: 2.5mm dpns.

I actually broke one of my needles when knitting these. I reckon it was the tension of the migraine that had me holding the needles in a death grip.

Last, but not least is probably my favourite so far. Tardis Socks!

Aren’t they fab? I’m only halfway through, but I think they look great. Of course, it probably has something to do with the fact that the blue yarn is Wollmeise. Never let it be said that I don’t love my daughter…

The pattern actually has a stitch repeat for the door panels, but I didn’t like the way it was turning out so I decided to leave it out. I just did the leg and foot plain. Made it fly along, too. The only worry I have is that they might be too big. The charts are for 72 stitches, which would even be big on me, so I decreased down to 64 stitches once they were done. They fit me perfectly, but I think Alice might need to grow into them a bit. No bad thing. Like I said, these are knit in Wollmeise, so I’d freak if she took another growth spurt and barely got any wear out of them. She’s goig to flip when she opens this present on Christmas morning! This better win me Mammy of the Year.

So, the migraine seems to be abating and I’m churning out knitting. Maybe it wasn’t such a bad week after all??? Nah, it was a doozy alright.

Good knitting!
